The beautiful Jessica
This was Jessica in the stairway at the amazing Powell Crosley Estate!
This is a phenomenal setting for a romantic evening to start a new life
together! I was there shooting with the killer photog - Jerry McGaghey!

Her heart is broken....
Linda knew her Mom's health was deteriorating and has known about it
for a long time.... Aunt Jean died about 2 weeks ago and we suspected
Maxine would lose what little desire she had to hold on.... Linda had
admired Aunt Jean deeply - all her life - and her passing stung my girl
hard... She has not been able to talk to her Mom since and Maxine slipped
into an unresponsive state and died on Saturday afternoon..... It's kinda
like a bus - you may see it coming, but it hurts just as bad as if you didn't
know. Linda was numb last night as she packed to go back to Arkansas...
We both stayed busy getting her ready and when we stopped for a minute,
the finality of losing her remaining parent sunk in and she wept herself
to sleep. She was up this morning preparing for the trip and this lady
that I have spent the last 36 years with ---- was just not herself....
her heart is broken..........
I understand and I hurt badly because she hurts - I wish I could take the pain
from her, but unfortunately this is something one has to deal with internally
until the peace comes.... She will be in good hands in Arkansas with
Betty, Wanda, Helen and Jimmy looking after her and holding her up....
She will never be away from my thoughts in the coming days...
I love you!

A SOLDIER DIED TODAY
Just A Simple Soldier
He was getting old and slowing, and his hair was falling fast,
But he never sat around the Legion telling stories of the past
Of a war that he had fought in and the deeds that he had done;
In his exploits with his buddies, they were heroes, every one.
And 'tho never to his neighbors, his tales would he ever quote
All his buddies would have listened, for they knew whereof he spoke.
A chance for tales no longer, for old Dave has passed away,
And the world's a little poorer, for a soldier died today.
No, he won't be mourned by multitudes; just friends, children and his wife,
For he lived an ordinary, very quiet sort of life.
He held a job and raised a family, quietly going on his way;
And the world won't note his passing, 'tho a soldier died today.
When politicians leave this earth, their bodies lie in state
While thousands note their passing and proclaim that they were great.
Papers tell of their life stories from the time that they were young,
But the passing of a soldier goes unnoticed and unsung.
Is the greatest contribution to the welfare of our land
Someone who breaks his promise to his fellow man?
Or the ordinary fellow who in time of war and strife
Goes off to serve his country and offers up his life?
The politician's stipend and the style in which he lives
Are sometimes disproportionate to the services he gives.
While the ordinary soldier, who offered up his all
Is paid off with a medal and perhaps a pension small.
It's so easy to forget them, for it was so long ago,
That our Daves and Jims and Jacks went to battle, but we know
It was not the politicians, with their compromise and ploys
Who won for us the freedom that our country now enjoys.
Should you find yourself in danger with your enemies at hand,
Would you really want someone with his ever waffling stand?
Or would you want a soldier who has sworn to defend
His home, his kin and country, and would fight until the end?
He is just a common soldier and his ranks are growing thin,
But his presence should remind us that we need his like again.
For when countries are in conflict, then we find the soldier's part
Is to clean up all the troubles that the politicians start.
If we cannot do his honor while he's here to hear the praise,
Then at least let's give him homage at the ending of his days.
Perhaps just a simple headline in the paper that might say:
OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING, FOR A SOLDIER DIED TODAY.
Have a safe and wonderful Memorial Day and never forget those that gave their lives so we could be free.

Rubye
Ruybe - my Mom's name, it represents all things "LOVE" to me...
My mom was the ultimate woman and mom! Let me start out
by saying that I grew up in a "Leave It to Beaver" family with the
perfect parents! Parents that were the epitome of role models
and led lives that we could only try to live up to.... Mom was
always there - I could feel her presence at all times. Mom worked
hard - Mom cleaned, cooked and played ball with me in the
front yard after working all day at Maas Brothers! She had a
devout faith in God and lived that example until the day she
died! She was like a rock - she was calm at the hospital when
Dad died and Bill, Tom and I were shook to the core - she
said he was OK now... and we needed to get him back home....
She would remain our constant model of calm through the
coming days as we took Dad back to Nashville and buried him..
She worshipped Dad - they had been high school sweethearts
and they put each other up on a pedestal - they were best
friends as well as husband and wife! They did most everything
together - What examples again!!!! Mom raised us 3 boys and
worked and loved every day of it! She always had an extra plate
or 2 if we had friends at supper time - if you were there, you ate!
She loved my baseball games - not so much for the football
and karate..... But she always supported me 100%. She loved us
unconditionally - always saw the best in us and encouraged us!!!!
There was never a question on Sunday - up and go to church with
Mom and Dad :-)) She loved her church - and her friends there -
and all the activities - Amazing!!! OH YEAH - She made the very
best cookies IN THE WORLD!!! Rubye Cookies!!
As you can see - she was passionate about LIFE!!! She LOVED LIFE!
She took whatever life gave her, cherished it and loved it....
This is the example she left me and all who were touched by her.
I still get a charge when I run into 1 of her friends and they said,
"This is Rubye's boy"... what an honor!
Well I could write for days, but my tears are causing too many
mistakes and my words do no justice to this marvel of a woman,
Rubye, my Mom...
Happy Mothers Day Mom.......

My friends.......
It's amazing! The child-like fascination I have with Pelicans and seagulls....
I stopped yesterday and took a few shots of these remarkable creatures over
waters where I had played and fished as a younger guy -- maybe part of the
continued fascination is linked to all the memories of the adventures I
experienced on these waters.....
Who knows?
I'll just keep on smiling and clicking.. :-))
Fly on Pete!
